In analyzing statistics of mass shootings, there are several factors
(targets) that have been talked about as the cause of the shootings,
including access to guns, lack of proper mental health care,
violence in movies, television, and video games.
The danger in lumping all of these factors into the "cause" of mass
shootings is that it appeases the public and tricks them into
thinking "something has been done" but it hides the RIGHT target and
mass shootings not only do not stop, they become more frequent and
deadlier. Isn't that EXACTLY what we have seen over the last 40 years? THE INSANITY DEFENSE - NOT GUILTY BY REASON OF INSANITYIn criminal trials, the legal process by which a jury, judge or arbitrator reviews evidence and arguments by opposing parties to decide the innocence or guilt of the defendant or accused party and/or rights or obligations between the parties, claims are made that someone has violated criminal law. The insanity defense or insanity plea is where the defendant claims they were not responsible for their actions because of mental health problems such as a psychiatric illness or mental handicap. Using the insanity defense to avoid criminal punishment dates back many years. Many view the insanity defense as an excuse to avoid punishment while others claim it to be a valid defense. A defendant claiming insanity is using the insanity defense or insanity plea and is pleading Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity (NGRI) or Guilty but Insane/Mentally Ill. Insanity pleas can result in reduced charges from first degree murder to manslaughter as well as reduced sentences. Some say the insanity defense exists out of a respect for human rights. But what about the murder victim's rights? The victim is dead. The murderer lives. Is that justice? Some U.S. states have banned the use of the insanity defense or insanity plea: Montana, Idaho, Kansas and Utah. Arizona has joined in by limiting the insanity defense. The insanity defense or insanity plea is thinly supported by the opinions of so-called psychiatric experts . A psychiatrist can only give an opinion, lacking any scientific basis, regarding the defendant being incapable of distinguishing between legal right and wrong and the nature of their actions at the time of the offense. These opinions may address the defendant's ability to control their behavior at the time of the offense. These opinions may also include the use of bogus mental disorders to label the defendant's behavior with a so-called mental disorder or mental illness. A defendant found not guilty by reason of insanity may then be committed to a psychiatric facility for an "undetermined" period of time for so-called psychiatric treatment which can include forcing the person to ingest various mind-altering psychiatric drugs, receive brain damaging electroshock or other intrusive and destructive actions under the disguise of so-called therapy. Unlike defendants found guilty of a crime who are likely incarcerated or put in jail for a fixed amount of time, a defendant found not guilty by reason of insanity are not institutionalized for a fixed time. And since a defendant can't be held indefinitely, defendants can be institutionalized for a short period of time and released. Instead defendants are held in an psychiatric institution until a psychiatrist subjectively decides the person is not a threat. Psychiatry, self-proclaiming themselves "Authorities" on the issue of mental illness, have no scientific basis for making any such judgements. Mental Institutions - Mental Asylums A defendant found not guilty by reason of insanity is generally placed in a mental institution and required to undergo psychiatric treatment, except in the case of temporary insanity. Temporary Insanity The idea of temporary insanity is that a defendant was temporarily insane, but is now sane. A defendant found to have been temporarily insane may be released into society without any punishment for their crime. The idea of Diminished Responsibility can also be used where any information or evidence regarding the defendant or the circumstances of the crime is presented to the court in hopes of reduced charges or a lesser sentence. For example, being under the influence of alchohol or drugs may be presented. Psychiatry’s Billing Bible: The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) “The way to sell drugs is to sell psychiatric illness." The
American Psychiatric Association's (APA) Diagnostic and Statistical
Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) is psychiatry’s billing bible of
so-called mental disorders. With the DSM psychiatry has taken countless
aspects of human behavior and reclassified them as a mental illness
simply by adding the term disorder onto them. While even key DSM
contributors admit that there is no scientific/medical validity to the
disorders, the DSM nonetheless serves as a diagnostic tool, not only
for individual treatment, but also for child custody disputes,
discrimination cases, court testimony, education and more. What is Psychiatry's Definition of 'Insanity'? There is NO definition of "Insanity" in the DSM-IV TR. The DSM IV-TR is essentially a giant book full of made-up disorders covering almost every symptom known to mankind. Since Psychiatry has no definition for insanity, psychiatrists will not commonly classify somebody as 'insane'.
